I received an email today alerting me to my updated Ancestry.com profile. I attach it below for general interest.
My friend, Fred (The Gar) Garcia, who has spent many years doing genealogical research, has documented that some of our ancestors in the new world were Conversos – Sephardic Jews who fled the Iberian Peninsula for the New World during the Inquisition.
My Indigenous heritage is from the tribes of Northern Mexico. I imagine that this part of my genome comes from my great grandmothers. Conquerors often take wives from among the conquered. It is rarely the other way around.
As for my connection to the British Isles and North Africa, I can only say that few things spread more readily than Cuisine, STIs, and Genes.
