Okay, I usually title my Friday blog post This Week in COVID. I must confess that I, no less than anyone else, have developed a certain degree of COVID myopia after the devastating blow that COVID dealt us for a good two years. Dr. Klotman’s BCM video address this week is really about RSV and Influenza and what folks can do to protect themselves and seek care if they fall ill with either virus.

The topics it covers are:

  • RSV and Influenza vaccines
  • Optimal timing of vaccination for different groups of folks
  • Recommended vaccine composition for various groups (high dose or adjuvanted Flu vaccines for all of us geezers)
  • Antivirals for Influenza
  • The timing of treatment for Influenza
  • Anti-RSV antibody treatment for babies

All of these are important, and not one is related to COVID – hence my tweaking of the post’s title. Masking to protect ourselves from Influenza and RSV was not mentioned; so, I’m mentioning it here. Like COVID, RSV and Influenza are respiratory viruses easily spread by respiratory droplets. So, wearing an N-95 or KN-95 mask is an important infection measure to help protect you from all three viruses.
