It could be a reference to a military order to stay off the airwaves, but it isn’t. It is a straightforward reference to an automobile infotainment system that has lost its voice. The system still has an active and properly functioning screen and SXM radio but no sound from either the map app or the radio. It’s been like that for days. I checked all the fuses that were marked for audio; they were all fine.

So, today I took my 2019 Subaru Forrester to the dealership for a diagnostic work-up. I was hoping that a wallet biopsy wouldn’t be necessary. The good folks at the dealership evaluated the problem and concluded that the problem was the amplifier. They didn’t have one in stock; so, the ordered one from Subaru. It will be weeks before it arrives. They charged me nothing for the diagnostic work and promised to replace the amplifier gratis once it comes in. Wow!

As a bonus, the diagnostic evaluation required testing that caused the system to reset itself. I now have a working radio for some indeterminate amount of time before it goes on the fritz again. I hope that it lasts until the new amp arrives.
