The last week, we have been in a cryo-battle of sorts. The fridge has been on the fritz. It turns out that the problem is a damper (a flue-damper-like device) between the freezer and refrigeration compartments. So, we’ve lost milk, cheese, vegetables, dressings and other refrigerated goods to molds because the temperature in the refrigeration compartment was too high. Alas. The necessary part is on order.
I decided last night that we should have shellfish for dinner this evening. I planned on scallops and Cajun grilled oysters. After Susan had her physical therapy session at noon, we went to the grocery store. I asked for six Gulf Oysters and six, (U-15) sized scallops. I usually buy four scallops, but those are the giant ones. I picked up a “Baguette de Tradicion,” in the bakery. The label said it was made with special flour from near Paris. OoLalaa!
When I assembled the components for our dinner, I discovered that our fish monger had given us a baker’s half-dozen of scallops and oysters – a prince of a guy! I pan-fried the scallops and grilled the oysters using Cotija cheese rather than Parmesan because my shredded parmesan had become moldy. Merde!
The salad was a roasted artichoke blossom. Susan got four scallops. I got four oysters. My dinner looked like this. It was tasty and satisfying.
I really hope the fridge gets fixed tomorrow!
