I love border food – tacos, chalupas (tostadas), refried pinto beans, cabrito al pastor, tamales, elote, and tortilla soup just to mention the ones that I have most often. I also love the food of the Yucatan – cochinita pibil, huachinango, pulpo a la plancha, and all the moles and pipian.

Tonight, I served tortilla soup with the obligatory tortilla strips – TexMex comfort food. Susan sliced up an avocado that had been in the fridge about a week too long. The sides were cilantro-lime salsa and some mild guacamole. Both the soup and the guacamole were from the Central Market (a branch of HEB) – I can get both in sizes suitable for a dinner for two. That way I don’t have to eat soup for days on end or watch leftover guacamole turn brown.

Dinner looked like this. Recommended for a small household of one or two people. I hope that your Sunday dinner was tasty and satisfying.
