Our fridge has been misbehaving for a couple of weeks. The freezer drawer works just fine – cooling to 0 to minus 2 degrees. The refrigerator compartment, programmed to cool to 37 degrees F, has been cooling only into the 50s. This is not optimal.

Many foods perish rapidly above 40 degrees – cheese, fruit drinks, fruits, and vegetables, etc. The fridge, like we ourselves, is of geriatric age. It’s nearing 15 years, I think. It’s a GE Profile counter depth appliance with French doors for the fridge and a drawer for the freezer. It has given good service. I recently replaced the left door’s gasket, and I also removed, cleaned, and replaced the right door’s gasket which was not as worn as the left door’s.

We had a certified GE appliance repairman come to see the ailing fridge, and he identified a faulty damper as the issue – it lets cold air from the freezer to enter the refrigeration compartment. A few days later, he got a new part and replaced the faulty damper.

No joy, Merde! He came back Monday and declared that the problem was a faulty temperature sensor. Some fidgeting later, he left asking us to report the outcome later. Sigh, it still won’t cool below 50 degrees.

If he can’t make the fridge work correctly, I may have to buy a new appliance; I’ve already spent too much on repairs. Shite! On the bright side, tomorrow is our anniversary, and I have ordered two steamed lobsters and bought a bottle of Prosecco.

The fridge may be focked, but tomorrow, I won’t care.
