As we come to the whimper that is the close of 2023, the torrent of news just keeps coming. Today, the Secretary of State of great state of Maine decided that The Orange Heel Spur was ineligible to be on the Republican Primary ballot. The effect is the same as the decision in Colorado, but it was reached by a different route. The SCOTUS is going to live, or die, based on these state-level presidential candidate eligibility decisions.
Lauren Bobert is abandoning her purple House district in order to run a redder district where her brand of hard-right political views and rhetoric might be better tolerated. The thing is that the voters all know by now that she vapes in public places where it is prohibited, and that she engages in PDG – or is it GIP? The former is Public Displays of Groping whereas the latter is Groping in Public. Don’t get me wrong, a good grope between consenting adults is a nice thing; I totally endorse it, but doing it in public during a play? Get a damned room!
Then there is my feckless Texas Fuhrer, Gregg Abbott, and his minions sending bus and plane loads of undocumented migrants to the suburbs of blue cities. I proposed, a year or so ago, that such cities should pass ordinances allowing for the impounding of vehicles used for that purpose. Chicago did just that, but folks like DeSantis and Abbott have just tweaked their transportation strategies. So, I’d like to propose that blue states pass laws based on the Texas abortion ban law.
These new laws would allow ordinary citizens to sue anyone participating in the un-negotiated transportation of undocumented migrants for $100,000. That means that bus drivers, the company they work for, pilots, airlines, officials from the transporting state, etc. could be sued through the nose for transporting migrants without the consent and coordination of the state to which they are sent. I can see an entire industry of Dog (the Bounty Hunter) style Paladins arising from such laws. It’s the Law of the West – Making America Great Again.
Then there is Nikki Haley. Don’t even get me started.
I see Maine as just one more to make America Great Again!
