We’ve seen the foxes multiple times the last few days. They show up on the deck in the evenings and sometimes even in the afternoons. They disappear under the deck using the deck cutout for the oak tree. Here’s a still shot from a couple of days ago.

Yesterday, around 7:30PM, two foxes emerged from the entrance to their den – first one, and then the other just a couple of minutes later. They both sauntered off to the left onto the carport. I fumbled with my camera trying to record the second one. When the fox was out of sight, I reviewed my recording only to find that I had a very nice recording of my pants leg and shoe. Sigh.

A little later, I went to the back door and spied one of the foxes sitting behind the observatory doing a bit of grooming. They’re very cat like in their poses and movements.

This afternoon, as Susan and I sat on the deck, a fox came up the stairs, wandered over to the tree, and disappeared under the deck. It seemed unconcerned with our presence and proximity. A moment later, we heard a commotion of squeals and chasing under the deck, and the fox emerged from below looking just a bit chastened. I think that today’s fox was an intruder who was not part of fox family living under the deck. The residents explained to him/her that this particular home had already been claimed.

  1. Last Friday before 6am and still dark outside, I was walking Honey and looked over to see what I thought was a cat. It followed me. Stopped and rubbed a tree when I looked around. He/she was not startled when I shooed it and waved my arms around. It followed me two blocks . My neighbor and I saw him earlier in the week and it was not bothered at our sight. Saturday while walking the dog at dusk in the park, I saw the same fox or maybe another 🦊 . He/she watched me come closer them jumped up into the tree. Neighbors say they have also been followed. One reported the fox jumped on their doghouse and watched their family eat dinner. Very integrated into my neighborhood.

How wonderful your foxes have chosen your deck, patio furniture, and water features to make their home. Enjoy the gift of their presence.
