We had rain showers that brought us about 0.5″ of rain this morning. It helps, but we are still in a drought. Sigh.

The sky cleared around 2PM, and I managed a solar photoshoot. My comparison narrowband H-alpha and broader band solar disk images show many dramatic solar prominences in the former and several new sunspot groups in the latter.

Below, the cropped image on the left emphasizes the prominences along the East-southeastern limb with delicate arches as well as plasma streams leaving the chromosphere. The image on the right, shows the prominences along the West-southwestern solar limb with dramatic streams of solar plasma being leaving the sun’s chromosphere probably to enter the corona.

The new sunspot groups and their active regions are highlighted below in today’s annotated sunspot cameo.
