Today was a cool, clear day – perfect for solar astronomy. Below and on the left, the narrowband H-alpha image, shows many filaments and prominences along the eastern, southern, and western solar limbs. The broader band image on the right shows not only the sunspot groups that we saw yesterday but also others that were washed out in that day’s image. In addition, the eastern limb shows some faint, yet dramatic, jets of solar plasma streaming from the chromosphere.


In the annotated sunspot cameo below, group AR3896 is washed out. The cropped frame below is over-processed to emphasize the plasma jets seen in the broadband image.
