Today was another blue-sky day perfect for solar imaging. For today’s images, I tried ten-minute AVI recordings instead of the usual five-minute runs. Each video had about 12,000 frames; I stacked the best 20% – roughly 2,400 images to produce the images below. I like the result.

Below is today’s sunspot image of the solar disk. More of the older active regions are about to disappear to the sun’s far side. Active region AR3936 has been producing some very strong flares that will disrupt radio communications and possibly enhance the aurora borealis.

Below is today’s H-alpha image followed by a cameo of the sun’s eastern limb showing a few prominences and complex filaments.
