The sky was pristine today, but the atmosphere was turbulent. Sigh. Below, the H-alpha image shows numerous filaments on the solar disk and loop prominences along the eastern and western solar limbs. The filaments are prominences seen against the solar disk as opposed to against space. They appear dark because the plasma in the prominences is relatively cooler than the solar chromosphere.
