The sky was clear, and the atmosphere stable this afternoon. Today, the sun’s H-alpha image shows some dramatic prominence activity along the E-NE limb and along the W-SW limb as well. Note that the dark filament near the NE solar limb becomes a prominence at the sun’s rim with a tall plasma plume rising high above the chromosphere. There is another fainter plume further east along the sun’s rim (better seen in the prominence images at the end of this post).

The sunspot image shows ten active regions. The region that I had tentatively labelled AR4030 on yesterday’s image has disappeared. The region that I tentatively labelled AR4029 in the NE region persists, but it is not shown in the NASA image. I wonder whether it is an artifact. AR4026 is still very faint.
