Here is Dr. Klotman’s Week 262 video address. My synopsis is:
Trust in Health Infromation
- Recent surveys continue to verify that the laity trusts Nurses above everyone else for reliable medical information. I do as well.
- Doctors come in second, I think. Pharmacists are also very respected.
- The CDC gets very low scores. I think that now that RFK (Lysenko), Jr is at the helm of HHS, there is good reason for such skepticism.
Flu
- Influenza A virus in wastewater is rapidly decreasing
- Influenza B is increasing; who knew?
Other viruses
- COVID levels in wastewater remain low
- Measles has been detected in Lubbock wastewater
Measles
- Nationally, we’re up to 378 cases
- Kansas now has ten cases
- 3 cases had two doses of MMR
- 2 cases had only one dose of MMR
- The efficacy of MMR continues to be ~97% regardless of what worm-brain says
- People engaging in international travel should verify their Measles immunity status
- Healthcare workers and folks who have HIV should have their antibody status checked
Bird Flu
- Birds, dairy herds, and domestic pets (cats mostly) die from the H5N1 bird virus
- The virus can survive up to 60 days in cheese made from unpasteurized, infected milk (it is pH dependent )
Anti-aging
- This is a $50-60 billion industry supported by little, if any, science.
- Blue Zones of extraordinary longevity are probably an illusion
- Having family members who lived >100 years probably improves your chances of having a longer life
For what little it matters, I have always had great trust in my nursing colleagues (male, female, and not) for medical advice. Kudos to you all.
