Here is Dr. Klotman’s Week 265 video address. The highlights are:

  • Texas wastewater shows high and rising levels of Metapneumovirus, Influenza B, Parvovirus B-19, and Parainfluenza virus – all cause upper respiratory infections
  • Measels
    • There 712 cases nationwide
    • Texas has 561 of them
    • 11% of cases have been hospitalized
    • So far, there have been three deaths – 2 in children and one in an adult
    • We haven’t yet exceeded the number of cases in 2019 yet, but we probably will
    • Measles has been showing up in the Texas wastewater analyses
    • Almost all of the Texas cases occurred in unvaccinated folks; only 11 cases occurred in people who had had one or two doses of Measels vaccine
  • Vitamins
    • Much has been made of Vitamin A or cod liver oil in treating Measles patients, but
      • Vitamin A supplements are only appropriate for individuals who have a documented deficiency of that vitamin
      • Vitamins K, A, D, and E are stored in our fat cells or liver and can accumulate and become toxic
      • The UL dosage that appears on Vit A supplements is the dose above which toxicity is a certainty, but people who are not deficient can develop toxicity at a much lower dose
      • The most worrisome symptoms of Vit A toxicity are neurological deficits, vision loss, coma and death
    • The so-called “Nutraceutical” industry is not regulated by the FDA (except when a product is shown to cause consumer injury), and the labelling of “supplements” is largely unregulated – so, many products’ labelling misrepresents the actual contents
  • Gene Editing Technology
    • Gene editing has been used to improve the compatibility of pig tissues with those of humans in order to increase the supply of donor organs such as kidney and liver for folks who need such transplants
    • The recent announcement of gene editing to create “Dire Wolves” just represents a novel application of the same technology. The resulting creatures are still basically Gray wolves with very small genetic alternations. They are not actual Dire Wolves
  • In a recent observational study, the risk of developing dementia was noted to be lower among people given the Shingles vaccine. The result is intriguing but does not establish a causal relationship between the chickenpox virus and the eventual development of Alzheimer’s disease
