It was partly cloudy today, but there were some “sucker holes” that let me capture some usable AVI files. Today’s H-alpha image shows some explosive prominences along the sun’s northwestern limb and some loop prominence activity along the eastern limb. I also captured some prominences less showy than these. Note the arrows that point to the dark filaments that are revealed as prominences when we follow them to the solar limb (rim). The activity that we see at the limb is occurring all along the filaments themselves.

The sunspot image below shows a new active region, AR4084, that has just rotated into view from the east. I have no idea what happened to AAR4083; perhaps it was a small and/or short-lived region.
