It was partly cloudy today – not optimal for solar photography, but here we go. Today’s H-alpha image shows loop prominence activity along the eastern solar limb. There are few filaments and bright plages around the largest active regions.

The sunspot image shows only five active regions. Region 4100 is a sunspot group that we saw last month on its journey around the sun as AR4079. The sun rotates every 25.5 days at its equation with the northern and southern latitudes rotating a bit more slowly than the equator because the sun isn’t solid and doesn’t really have a “surface.”

Active Regions AR4102 and AR4103 are very small sunspots like AR4101, but they are not visible in this image. The same is true of AR4094.
