The sky was mostly overcast today. So, my solar photoshoot was somewhat more challenging than even on partly cloudy days when there are some clearings between the dense cumulus clouds.

Today’s H-alpha image shows large prominences along the northeast, northwest, and southwest solar limbs. Delicate filaments are visible in the southwest quadrant of the solar disk. None of today’s active regions is notable in this image.

The sunspot image shows the active regions to better advantage, but they are still faint in part due to the filtering and blurring effects of the clouds. Today’s NASA’s SDO image shows five active regions – the largest of which is AR4105 below. My image shows only the two larger regions; AR4106-AR4108 are too faint to identify below.

Today’s largest solar prominences appear in the gallery below. The NE prominence shows a delicate loop/arch.
