Today’s H-alpha image shows subtle prominences along the SE, E, and NW solar limbs. There is a dark filament near the middle of the image slightly north of the sun’s equator. This feature comes through on the sunspot image as well. Both the sunspots and the filaments/prominences are cooler than the solar chromosphere and thus appear dark by comparison.

The corresponding sunspot image shows five active regions. Both AR4114 and AR4116 are about to disappear over the western horizon to the far side of the sun.
