Until recently, I had only heard this phrase in the context of liquor consumption. “He drank that fool under the table,” and similar expressions. But the more contemporary use of this phrase comes from the John Wick story line. The John Wick universe’s super-villains sit at “The High Table,” and minions like John Wick serve, “under the table.”

In our house, “Under the Table” refers to the dining table chairs upon which felines repose – often waiting for an opportunity for a “snatch and grab,” type operation on the table itself.
