Here is Dr. Klotman’s Week 291 video address. My summary follows.
MPox
- MPox viral levels ae increasing in Texas wastewater
- In endemic regions (Africa), MPox spreads readily among people living in close quarters – especially among children. It is a zoonosis carries by rodents and primates
- In non-endemic regions (Europe and the US), MPox spreads mostly among intimate, sexual contacts
- There are two kinds of MPox – Clade I, the most severe, is seen in central Africa (DRC); Clade II, a milder form, is seen in West Africa
- The Texas cases have been Clade II – accounting for the wastewater viral signatures
- Jynneos vaccine protects against MPox infection
Measles
- Studied at the school district level, some Texas schools have fewer than 45% of their students vaccinated with MMR. That means that if one child shows up to class shedding Measles virus, there will be a schoolwide outbreak
