Our master suite’s bath has a roll-in type shower enclosure with a large bay window. In order to maintain some privacy, we put a plastic film over the lower part of the large window whose platform is a nice place for plants and cats. The plastic filter consists of 1″x1″ squares that are essentially diffraction gratings. They act like prisms, and when the sun shines through them, they cast primary and secondary spectra on the shower stall tiles. Susan calls the effect, “Bathing in rainbows.”

Kedi and Maia both like the rainbows. They also enjoy lapping up the residual water droplets dripping down the shower stall walls and floor after we shower. Here is Maia enjoying the rainbows after Susan’s shower this morning.
