This is Dr. Klotman’s 115th weekly update on the (hopefully receding) COVID apocalypse. The hospitalization numbers are holding steady, but the wastewater viral levels are increasing. What does that mean? I think it means that there is a rising tide of mild COVID. Do you want to get mild COVID? I don’t think that you or I or anyone our age (7th decade or older) wants that.
Susan and I have taken our second booster; it was Pfizer this time rather than Moderna simply to increase the spectrum of the antibody response. Both vaccines are m-RNA vaccines, but the spike protein m-RNAs are not totally identical. That’s actually a good thing since taking both means that the immune response has a broader spectrum.
This week’s report includes some news and commentary on recent Monkeypox outbreaks. I don’t think that most of us have anything to worry about unless we are immunocompromised (chemotherapy, HIV, or taking immuno-suppressive therapies).
