I live in Central Texas, and I have family on the Texas Coast. A few times a year, we drive down to visit them, and I always take the route along US-183. It’s a little longer than I-37, but it is also more leisurely and scenic. There is a segment of the trip that goes from Refugio (I can tell whether you are from Texas by the way you pronounce the name) to Corpus Christi; it is FM-136. This little road runs along the Texas Coast including Copano Bay and the little town of Bayside, Texas. At Copano Bay, there is a pullout that is part of the Texas Paddling Trail. We often stop there to observe the birds. In years past, we kayaked there as well.
