Susan has gone to Omaha to dispatch some of her parental duties while also visiting with the granddaughters. I am, for lack of a better expression, home alone. That is, home alone with two cats for company, of course.

I’ve decided to devote each day alone to some basic chore that needs doing but has long been ignored. Today’s chore focused on lights. Last week, we noticed that all the bulbs in one of our walk-in closet light fixtures were out. My fancy 4-panel LED garage light has been on the fritz for weeks too. Our task light over the kitchen sink area, a xenon G9 base has been out for a month; it seems to be the G9 receptacle rather than the bulb that is the problem. And were that not enough electrical treachery, I noticed last night that my expensive Office Depot laser pointer no longer worked. Merde! I ordered another from Amazon for probably one-third the price of mine.

This afternoon, I replaced the three incandescent bulbs in the closet fixture using LED bulbs. Voila! Next, I moved a painter’s ladder into the garage and moved some crap (the garage if full of crap) out of the way so that I could replace the 4-panel LED garage fixture. Voila! I found the replacement laser pointer that I had ordered from Amazon two days ago, unpacked it, and tested it. Voila!

Emboldened by my successes, I decided to tackle the G9 receptacle in the kitchen. I had previously tinkered with it thinking to remove the entire fixture. Studying it more carefully, I realized that it was actually designed with the replacement of the bulb receptacle in mind. I disassembled most of the unit, but I hit a roadblock. I referred to YouTube for help. Maybe I’ll tinker with it again later this week. Besides, I need to order a new receptacle from Amazon.

So, my score as regards illumination chores is three out of four. I know, taking credit for ordering and unpacking a laser pointer is a stretch, but I’m home alone, after all. It’s time to make a burger run to Dan’s Hamburgers for a fast-food dinner.
