I’ve recently been fantasizing about having friends over for blue crabs and bugs (crawdads). I know, it’s a paltry fantasy. When I was younger, my fantasies involved groups of scantily clad, willing, nubile females and perhaps a trapeze. It was a long time ago.
Now, I look forward to inviting old friends to a meal of Cajun-spiced, boiled crawdads, blue crabs, corn, potatoes, baby Bella mushrooms and perhaps sausage. An alternative to crawdads is to shrimp; that’s Frogmore stew or Low Country Boil.
Tonight, I decided to make a mini-Frogmore just for the two of us – shrimp, corn, potatoes, and a sausage. Just to be sure we had enough for a real dinner, I bought six Gulf oysters. The oysters ensure that we get our minimum recommended allowance of microplastics. Here is the finished product along with a side salad of pickled vegetables, a Dolma, and a leaf of Belgian endive with bleu cheese crumbles.
I have a nubile female companion, but Voltaren gel now takes the place of the trapeze.
