This evening we had two medical colleague couples for a dinner of mudbugs and blue crabs. We’ve been doing this every year for the last three or four – I’ve lost track, and all I can say is that I look forward to this communal meal every spring during crawfish season.

On my left are our friends Linda Dooley and her husband Fred. Linda is a retired internist who was my residency mate back in 1980. Susan is opposite me – at the head of the table. On my right are Abe and Debra Delgado. Abe was a year ahead of me in residency. Fred is a retired family counselor, and Debra is a retired IRS attorney.

As we do each year, we talked about our children and grandchildren, the occasional political outrage, our health challenges, and interesting medical cases among our family members and friends. It’s what medical nerds and their significant others do.

The bugs and crabs were tasty. Debra brought a crunchy and refreshing salad. Linda brought a tasty, home-made desert. We all ate to the point of satiation. I look forward to surviving another year so that we can share a meal next year.
