When I want to search for a fact or some background on a topic, I typically enter a keyword or other search term into a search engine field. Mine might be a query concerning a public figure, a particular scientific issue or something entirely banal. Now and then, particularly when I am in the car as a passenger, I resort to, “Hey, Siri.”

Yesterday, after cleaning up a hairball from one of our cats, I pulled out my phone and uttered, “Hey, Siri do Lions ever develop hairballs?” I figured that if the answer were, “Yes,” then the circumstances would be extraordinary. Susan was nearby and listening. Siri responded, “Here’s what I found about Lions and hairballs.”

Siri identified two instances of hairballs in big cats, one in a lion and the other in a tiger, that required surgical removal. Both were hard bezoars weighing approximately 4 lb. Well, at least our cats don’t require surgical intervention for their grooming-related hairballs.
