It was 1982. The movie was Conan the Barbarian. It would catapult Arnold Schwarzenegger to big screen fame. His female counterpart, Sandahl Bergman, played his romantic interest Valeria who, late in the story, speaks these lines.
“All the Gods, they cannot sever us. If I were dead and you still fighting for life, I’d come back from the darkness. Back from the pit of hell, to fight at your side.”
I recall sitting in a courtroom, many years ago, as a defendant in a medico-legal suit with Susan sitting next to me. It was just a few years after Conan had hit the movie screens. It was a fight, to be sure, but I was not alone. And the victory was ours.
Now, I look at Trump being arraigned, with nobody but paid lapdogs at his side, and I see how little he has. It seems that Melania and Ivanka prefer to remain in the darkness, even dwelling in the pit of hell, rather than come to his side.
We get only as much fidelity as we deserve.
