A former workmate of mine at the State of Texas once described legislative hearings as “Theater for Ugly People.” And, I think that the basic idea applies as well to most of the public appearances of politicians. Every interview with a senator or representative is a performance. So is every press conference, every State of the Union address, and every bill signing. These are all ceremonial events in which appearances, pomp and fawning expressions of fealty are as or more important than what is actually said or done.
This afternoon, on my way home from the grocery store, I listened to SXM radio MSNBC and heard some GOP figurehead congratulating Kristin Sinima and the G10 who crafted the framework of the BIF. At one point, this fool said that it was “President Donald Trump” who helped him to understand the importance of infrastructure – making it possible for him to become a proponent rather than opponent of the BIF.” He was crediting Trump with the passage of the BIF! I was in utter disbelief for a moment until I realized that this was just a theatrical performance for an audience of one.
“You need to wipe Trump’s jizz off your chin, man,” I thought to myself. I was visualizing the old man from Nantucket at that point.
Trump has been gone for most a year after a catastrophically failed, one-term presidency. He is irrelevant to most of us. We know that he was and continues to be a crook. We expect him and his criminal organization to ultimately come to justice. He is little more than an updated Al Capone with a following of fawning sycophants whose pockets he has helped to line. He is a latter day Pablo Escobar with a throng of followers indebted to his fraud-fueled largess. And, he still commands the weak-minded of the GOP. Geeze!
Or maybe, it is just Jizz rather than Geeze.
DITTO.
WELL SAID.
