All of our flower beds have been overgrown for at least a year if not longer. The most troublesome species have been hackberry saplings, elm saplings, lantana bushes and volunteers of Pride of Barbados and other species. I managed to address one small bed earlier this year when our deck was rebuilt. The remainder of the beds remained unkempt.

I asked our lawn service for a bid to rid us of all the unwanted plants, lay a weed-suppressant barrier and cover everything with mulch while I cogitated what plants to put in. I’m getting too old for this crap. A few Sheckles later, here are the backyard beds. Not too shabby.

In the front, we have a similar renovation, and I have replaced our unruly hoses with stainless steel-clad hoses that my FB buddy John Gould recommended. The result is a much tidier deck.

All that remains is to put in new bedding plants.

  1. We have slowed down a lot in our latter years. Patty had the whole hill planted in herbs, flowers, etc, but the upkeep wore us down. Also hard to mow.
Have about 6 acres of trees, and mow about 3 acres with many rocks. We laid about 500 ft of pvc once with 5 faucets to water with

    1. Our suburban lot is nowhere near as big as your spread. Nonetheless, The upkeep has become an issue because Susan can’t help much with her mobility challenges. So, I figure its time to loosen the purse strings and pay other folks to do the necessary labor. After all, everyone has to pay for their board and meals.
