Susan and I went to visit our friend Marta in Paige, Texas this afternoon. I have known Marta since I was 18yo. I am 75yo today. I had promised last year to give her some Pride of Barbados seedlings, and this Spring, I harvested two for her. Like chile piquin, they volunteer readily.
Paige is about 56 miles from Austin, and the way there is pretty easy if you can navigate a busy Hwy 290E. The older I get, the more I hate highway driving. My friend in Paige, ten years my senior, feels the same way.
We had a nice visit and a chat – catching up on the happenings in our lives since we last regrouped – events in our lives, our children and grandchildren, etc. We had a cup of coffee and a small loaf of banana bread that Marta had prepared in anticipation of our visit. It was all very nice and familial.
Marta has a Collie that is very sweet and protective of her family. We spent a while petting her and acquiring the scent of dog. When we got home, the cats were surprisingly indifferent to the scent.
Once home, Susan and I prepared dogs, hot dogs, with mustard, dill relish, chili sauce, shredded cheese, and onions. We had only two dog buns; so, we each got a dressed dog and a nekkid dog. It was an adequate dinner.

I need to tell the story of my first day at medical school and how dogs figured into that story – maybe tomorrow. Tonight, it is time to bed down with cats.
I do love a good chili dog! They look great!
We do too!
