Yesterday, as we drove home from our visit to Omaha, Susan said, “I didn’t see any overt signs of withdrawal this week as you detoxed from your daily consumption of MSNBC.” Before I could respond, she added, “And, I’ve totally detoxed from Asian RomComs.” It’s true; we spent a week talking with our progeny; playing with them; cooking and eating with them; and spending time watching the streaming offerings on Disney+ and Paramount Plus. Neither of us felt even a simple withdrawal pang from my interruption of consuming the 24-hour news cycle or Susan’s interrupted diet of escapist Asian TV series.
I have to admit that we no sooner began our long journey home two days ago than I turned the car’s SXM radio to MSNBC. Susan got home, and she turned on the Asian RomCom series that she has been binging. We so readily fall back into our habits.
One of the series that we began watching in Omaha is Star Trek Lower Decks. Lower Decks is a computer animated series set in the time period of STNG. It is available on Paramount Plus, and it is very well done. The characters in the series are as believable as Picard, Dr. Crusher, Riker, Troi, Geordi, Data and Worf. The dialog is lively and light-hearted. I like it much more than any other animated series (which really are not my cup of tea, generally speaking). If you are a Sci-Fi nerd, as Susan and I are, I recommend this Parmount offering to you.
I don’t think that you need to give anything up to indulge in the Lower Deck series.
