You can watch Dr. Klotman’s Week 242 video address here. The highlights are:

  • The WHO says that TB is once again the leading cause of death from infectious diseases. When I was in medical school, Tuberculosis had been all but vanquished
  • The most troublesome of the TB infections are those caused by antibiotic resistant strains.
  • With the decrease in mask wearing in the wake of the COVID pandemic, “atypical” bacterial pneumonias such as Mycoplasma pneumonia have made a big comeback.
  • TEPHI wastewater data show that Enterovirus D68 URI activity is high, Influenza A viral loads are slowly increasing, Norovirus (an intestinal disease) and Parainfluenza are also increasing.
  • COVID viral load in wastewater is increasing although ER visits and hospitalization have not yet shown an increase.
  • H5N1 Influenza A continues to infect dairy and poultry workers with mild conjunctivitis. Some cases have been asymptomatic.

My only editorial comment is the obvious: There is still time for you to get your Flu and COVID vaccines if you haven’t already had them. Oh, and wear your mask when you are out and about with people – especially in closed spaces like shops.
