Here is Dr. Klotman’s Week 267 video address. My summary is:
- Texas wastewater viral levels show that the Influenza A & B season is over
- Measles has been detected in the wastewater in Lubbock & El Paso
- There are still high levels of metapneumovirus, parainfluenza and Parvovirus 19 that typically cause upper respiratory illness
- Rotavirus in wastewater is high. It can cause a severe diarrheal illness in children
- SARS CoV-2 (COVID) wastewater levels are low for now
- The best advice for upper respiratory illness is STAY HOME until the symptoms abate
- In the US, we are up to 884 cases of Measles with 3 deaths and 11% hospitalizations
- In 2019, the US had 1274 cases of Measles; not even halfway through 2025, we already have ~900
- There is plenty of Measles in other countries – Europe, Canada, Mexico, etc. If you plan to travel internationally, make sure that you and yours have been vaccinated
- Texas leads the states for Measles cases – most recently 663 mostly among unvaccinated people
- Measles misinformation is widespread
- Too many people believe that the MMR vaccine is more dangerous than Measles
- Too many people believe that Vit A can be used to treat Measles
- Only half of folks are aware that there are more US Measles cases this year than in prior years
- Too many people harbor the erroneous belief that MMR vaccine causes autism
- 90% of Americans believe that the MMR vaccine is safe and effective, but it takes a vaccine uptake of 95% to prevent outbreaks!
- Recent epidemiological modeling studies predict that Measles will become endemic in the US within 2 years if vaccination levels cannot be increased to 95%
Dr. Klotman didn’t talk about Pertussis (whooping cough) cases and deaths – that’s for next week. I posted an item today from the TMA Medical News Roundup that addressed Pertussis.
On the vaccine front, HHS Secretary RFK, Jr (vaccine skeptic) has announced that all new vaccines will be tested in placebo-controlled trials before being approved. This has always been the case for NEW vaccines, but it seems likely that this moron will insist that any change to a vaccine makes it a NEW vaccine. So, every Flu and COVID vaccine reformulation will be required to undergo such a trial – adding cost and perhaps a 3-month delay to every updated vaccine. RFK, like Trump himself will do anything he can to gum up the FDA and CDC’s works.
