We’ve had a total of 2.5″ of rain the past two days. The rain ended around noon today with a tornado watch for Travis and surrounding counties. There was no tornado, and the skies cleared in the early afternoon making it possible to do some solar imaging.
Today’s H-alpha image shows dramatic prominences along the northeastern, eastern, western and southwestern solar limbs. There is also a broad filament that stretches across the northwestern solar disk quadrant.

The sunspot image shows three prominent active regions and a dark blotch (see the white arrow below) that appears to correspond to the broad filament seen in the H-alpha image. This feature is not noted in today’s NASA SDO (Solar Dynamics Observatory) image.
