Today’s H-alpha solar image shows eight of the ten active regions that NASA’s SDO imagery shows. The others are too faint to see here. There are prominences along the NE, SE, SW, and NW solar limbs but only those along the NE and NW are featured in the gallery at the end of this page.

The sunspot image shows only six of the ten active regions whereas the H-alpha image above also shows AR4155 and AR4160 (represented by their associated plages) that are not seen below.

The most dramatic of today’s solar prominences appear below.
