The first food porn of 2022 is a Lobster, chicken Pot Pie, and artichoke combo. Susan is the pot pie afficionado; we both had some lobster, and we always share that most heavenly of thistles, the artichoke with garlic butter. A good time was had by all, but we missed being able to share our table with friends and family. Alas, the COVID apocalypse is not done with us. 🙁

Our weather was wintry. We decided late on NY Eve that Sarah would brave the weather to go to the closest store to find some food. We made a list. It seems the locals all had the same idea. The store was very busy. Sarah was a bit worried about being able to social distance. Masks are required indoors everywhere in Oregon, but the virus is still spreading fast. We hoped for crab again since it is plentiful in December but alas! No crab to be found. We had several back up plans including steak. Nope! None to be found! Sarah bought some things and came home quite disheartened.
NYEve we had peel and eat shrimp (from a bag in our freezer) with crusty garlic bread and a bottle of bubbly from our wine rack. At midnight, we ate 12 grapes; the story was that each grape represented a month in 2022. If the grape tasted sour, plan for that month to be challenging. If the grape was sweet, smooth sailing in that month. I found my June is going to be challenging, and April is going to be less than perfect.
On NYDay, we made shrimp tacos with black beans, guac and trimmings.
Today I made a frittata for our brunch with the last of the shrimp. It was quite tasty.
Tonite we had baked St Louis style ribs (again from our freezer) with store bought potato salad and Sarah’s home made cole slaw.
I suspect tomorrow Sarah will head to the store to replenish our supplies. However, I must say that we really enjoyed our put together meals! Oh yes; we have a cherry pie from the freezer that has been baked and smells delightful. We have vanilla ice cream for it too.
Bon Appetit in 2022~~~~
I actually went looking for crab and found lobster instead. Like you and Sarah, we too roll with the Vicissitudes of Life. Sounds like you guys made wonderful meals.
Viktor Frankl said that the one thing that cannot be taken from human beings is their ability to find meaning in the events that they cannot themselves control. Sometimes, I suppose, the meaning is to be found in 12 grapes. 🙂
A great start to the new year.
Three yummy foods!
Yep, and Ina Garten’s roasted tomato basil soup with Susan’s 4-cheese grilled cheese sandwiches (Swiss, Jack, Mozzarella and Gruyère) this evening. Perfect for another wintery night. Yum!
I hope your dinner is yummy as well.
