NGC1499 is The California Nebula. You can see the reason for the designation with just a minimum of imagination. This is a molecular hydrogen cloud like others that I have featured from our trip to Casitas de Gila this year. If you scan the frame patiently, you will be able to identify a dozen or more galaxies in the far distance beyond the nebula itself. I enjoy this kind of hunt; so does Susan.
