We got up a little earlier than usual this morning. Nico and Eise had planned to go to Deer Mtn so that Elise could climb a mountain. The rest of us had planned to drive into RMNP to visit the Alluvial Fan – the site of a 1982 disaster (more later). By the time I got up, Nico and the girls were outside bouncing some small balls that they had won the day before at an arcade that was part of the minigolf venue.

After a bit, Nico explained that Elise really wanted to climb rocks rather than mountains. We all agreed to visit the Alluvial Fan site. We drove there in two cars, and while Susan and I actually made it to the Alluvial Fan, the rest of the crew stalled at a parking area that offered a steep slope and lots of opportunities to scramble up the rocks. Everybody got what they needed, but the girls never got to see the waterfall at the Alluvial Fan. Alas!

Here’s a panorama of the scene below the falls.

We had a nice visit with some retirees who were visiting RMNP for their first time. Like us, they had grandkids in the 3-10 yo age range. They were from Michigan. When we were done socializing, we headed back to the car and met up with the rest of the family at a favorite hangout called Coffee on the Rocks.
This little place is on Moraine Avenue and backs up to Fall River. It has a small pond that is home to a group of mallard ducks. The eatery serves specialty coffees, chips, and sandwiches. For $1.00 you can buy a paper cup of dried corn and earn the affections of the mallards. Nico, Elise and Celeste had already done that by the time we arrived. We had a low-key lunch together and went our separate ways.

Dinner was takeout from a favorite Nepalese restaurant on Fall River. We had a low-key evening at home.

I am so happy for you and Susan. Such a wonderful time of our lives. I have never been happier. It is like it all comes together and nothing is better than family and experiences.
Totally. 🙂
